The tale of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” takes another turn. Following the release of its music video on July 4th, the song now has its own 8-bit, browser-based video game. In this game, players control an 8-bit version of Kendrick Lamar, aiming to hit as many pixelated owls as possible before time runs out. The game features a chiptune remix of Mustard’s “Not Like Us” beat, and each successful hit triggers a cartoony “WOP!” on the screen. This game draws inspiration from a scene in the music video where Kendrick smashes an owl piñata, and also nods to the owl logo of Drake’s OVO label.
Created by game designer and rapper Richie Branson—who has also worked on Fortnite and contributed music to Adult Swim—the game is available to play at notlikeusgame.com, with full credits listed below.
The “Not Like Us” video includes more digs at Drake and references to their ongoing feud, which you can explore further in the video and accompanying commentary here. Kendrick debuted “Not Like Us” live, performing it five times in a row, at his Juneteenth concert ‘The Pop Out: Ken & Friends.’ The event also featured the first live performances of “Euphoria” and “6:16 in LA.” For a detailed account of the Kendrick and Drake rivalry, check out the full timeline.
