After breadcrumbing us with singles for the past several months, Philly legends They Are Gutting a Body of Water (aka TAGABOW for short) just dropped their long-awaited "Kool Faith / Loosies II" mixtape today, Oct. 16. (Which happens to be Bob Mould's birthday! It's a powerful day, y'all.) As alluded to in the hed, this gigantic mixtape contains a whopping 29 tracks, the majority of which are collaborations with other […]

And it's REAL fuckin' good. (As in, I've been playing it on repeat all morning.) "Flawed," the track in question, was recorded as a demo over 35 years ago when Swervedriver was in the process of making their debut album "Raise." And while an alternate version of the song was released on their Sandblasted EP in 1991, this particular demo version wasn't actually released until literally today. And one thing […]

And yes, I'm talking about Teenage Fanclub! The legendary five-piece band graced Instagram with their new song, "Day In The Sun," earlier today (July 23). And, in true Teenage Fanclub fashion, it's catchier than all-get-out. They also announced that their upcoming album, Do Not Dare To Dream, will be released on Oct. 9 on Merge Records. It'll be their first studio album since 2023's Nothing Lasts Forever, so consider our calendars […]

That's right: All three of these fantastic Midwestern bands/musicians (and Substrate darlings) have released brand new singles on the exact same day! And obviously, they all absolutely slay. Check out the videos for "Riverboat Blues" by Graham Hunt, "Not For Nothing" by Slow Pulp and "All The Rage" by Wishy below. And slash or, listen to them on Bandcamp here, here and here! Also, stay tuned for upcoming albums from […]

Happy birthday to the shoegaze legend himself! And sorry for the dead air. :^( (And "fuck you" to the universe for preventing me from broadcasting my all-shoegaze playlist that I made for my Barfing Up Lungs show tonight in celebration.) Here's my favorite MBV song in the meantime: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_pQGxIMcgA&list=RDO_pQGxIMcgA&start_radio=1 (Reported by Kayleigh Drake)

In an Instagram post captioned "Happy May Day," the band confirmed the release of their first song in nearly three decades. Technically, it was uploaded to Bandcamp in April, per guitarist/vocalist Tobin Mori in an interview with Strand Magazine. But for the first time since the band called it quits in 1999, we got a brand new original song from Korea Girl. It's called "Anthropocene." And it is beautiful. They […]

After a literally 20-year wait, we're getting a sequel to the absolutely iconic film The Devil Wears Prada, featuring the legendary Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt reprising their roles from the original. (But presumably with even more fabulous shenanigans.) You can catch it at theaters across Birmingham, including the Premiere theaters on Lakeshore and in Bessemer, Regal in Trussville (yes, the vibey 80s-inspired one), and all three […]

It's a mid-aughts indie kid's dream come true! Members of these two iconic bands recently came together and formed a brand new band, The Creem. (Not to be confused with Cream the Eric Clapton band. Or Creem the rock and roll magazine.) They released their first single, "Taste Of Cherry," just a few weeks ago on April 7, and today they released a brand new one called "Goodbye." And if […]

Well, technically "late summer/early fall." But either way, both Liz and S-K confirmed the news today on Instagram. They're calling it "The Flannel and the Fury Tour," which Liz says "is a nod to 1990’s alt-rock culture and the female-fronted bands who staked their claim to center stage in a male-dominated music industry." Honestly, slay. These iconic, legendary musicians will be starting things out in California and moving throughout the […]
