In many respects, Yo La Tengo form the foundation of what has become known as indie rock. Their own insatiable appetite for music has created a kaleidoscopic mélange of everything from delicately hushed, intimate love songs to explosive noise jams. In this episode they also perform Birmingham native Sun Ra’s “We Travel the Spaceways”.

Subcarrier is a live music series on Alabama Public Television.  Shot and recorded at Saturn in the Avondale neighborhood of Birmingham, each episode features live performance and interview with a different group from around the state, country, or planet that brings a unique approach to their music.  Utilizing Saturn’s incredible room and lights and the highest production standards, Subcarrier aims to continue APT’s goal of bringing valuable arts and entertainment to the ears and minds of Alabama’s citizens.  We thank our partners for their continued support and hope to surprise and inspire with the next best things you didn’t know existed.
