Welcome to the soundtrack of your future. It comes directly to you via Bogota, Colombia and it heals all wounds, makes everything better, more danceable and (the best part!) just a little bit more hilariously absurd. I’m talking about the immaculate sounds of Los Pirañas, a trio who have been making music on and off as a supergroup since the tender age of 15.

Since the release of their 2010 debut album (Toma Tu JabonKapax), guitarist Eblis Alvarez (Meridian Brothers), bassist Mario Galeano (Frente Cumbiero, Ondatropica) and drummer Pedro Ojeda (Romperayo) have been successfully crafting their own wonderfully loco musical world, pushing the boundaries of instrumental Tropicalia music with a wildly humorous and eccentric blend of Psychedelia, Dub and Latin American styles like Vallenato, Peruvian Chicha, Cumbia and Colombian Champeta, just to name a few. Los Pirañas combine these styles with a vivacious rock attitude, noisy improvisations and absurd musical humor. Think of a more exotic, instrumental Captain Beefheart : completely insane, but extremely danceable and enjoyable at the same time.

Their new album Una Oportunidad más de triunfar en la vida translates to One more chance to succeed in life, and it’s just as joyfully intoxicating and mind-bending as their previous 4 albums. It’s a perfect starting point for anyone just discovering the band, wanting to eventually travel through their tantalizing psychedelic discography, which in an off-hand way paints a lovely musical portrait of the colorful, contemporary Colombia music revival scene.
