It’s been a long 7 years since Purling Hiss has graced us with an album, but Drag On Girard is completely worth the wait and it’s pure unadulterated fun! Garnering their name from its heavy use of distortion and white noise, this album is full of beautifully fuzzed out guitars and does not disappoint.
The album’s opener, “Yer All In My Dreams” is a rocking uptempo slammer filled with Bug-era Dinosaur Jr. vocals and guitar solos that sets the tone for the rest of the record. “Baby” is a Pixies-esque anthem with the opening line “She says she’s gonna have a baby” that is so infectious that it makes you want to scream it out loud on this 2-minute steamroller. The slower tempo “When The End Is Over” might be my favorite though and gives me major Teenage Fanclub feels. Loaded with screaming guitar bends and lyrics full of nostalgia about climbing trees and going to the moon makes me keep this one on repeat.
Drag On Girard has the ability to feel nostalgic and timeless all at once which is a rarity these days.
