Erich Von Stroheim’s 4 hour silent masterpiece is available on TUBI.  Curl up for one full viewing or break it up into chunks but this 100 year old film still holds up as it examines the human susceptibility to the greed and downfall of humankind.  Perfect summer viewing.

 

 

 

The Return of Martin Guerre (1982)

Before he was the Harvey Weinsten of France,Gerard Depardieu was considered one of the leading French actors.  Here, he is in full form playing a man during the 16th century who returns home after years being away at war.  Is he the same person?  Some think he is, and some think he is not but want this person instead.  Decide for yourself by watching this French drama.

Hey do you want to see what the wacky crew at Camp Northstar led by Bill Murray from 1980s summer camp classic Meatballs is up to?!  Too bad because this has nothing to do with that comedy classic. It’s a cash grab of the highest order and there is an alien because ET was a smash hit.

Summer School (1987)

Mark Harmon is charming as hell in this breezy summer movie directed by comedy legend Carl Reiner. Kirstie Alley (RIP) holds her own and the kids are great, especially “proto-Bill & Ted” Dave & Chainsaw and a young Courtney Thorne-Smith. It’s summer fun, lighten up.
