The Impossible (2012)
A based-on-a true-story film that actually delivers. Starring Ewan McGregor, Naomi Watts, and a young Tom Holland, it shows the horrific aftermath of the 2004 tsunami that decimated Thailand. Expertly directed by J.A. Bayona, it effectively uses CGI while connecting us to the devastation.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003)
Get ready for Napoleon by watching this brilliant historical epic. Russell Crowe is phenomenal in this adaptation by Peter Weir. It is a great example of big scale filmmaking with special effects that support the human story.

Christmas Mail (2010)
A hunky postman falls in love with a mysterious new employee who answers all of the letters to Santa. Spoiler alert, it’s Santa’s daughter. Or niece or something. I don’t know but it’s really bad and my daughters quote it all the time. I told you it was Lifetime Movies from here on out.
Available for free on Tubi. Please don’t pay to watch this.
Septien (2011)
To continue our journey to Christmas let’s watch Septien. Just kidding this film is bonkers starring Robert Longstreet. It screened at Sidewalk and Sundance and it’s weird and hilarious and has nothing to do with Santa or the post office. It’s about a bunch of crazy adult brothers and weird nightmare drawings and smothering demons.
