In the annals of rock ‘n’ roll history, there are legends of wild nights, epic collaborations, and then there’s Dave Grohl, the man who apparently found time to catch up on some beauty sleep during a recording session with boygenius. Yes, you read that right. Dave Grohl, the high-energy force behind the Foo Fighters, reportedly snoozed his way through what was supposed to be a guest performance on boygenius’ debut album.
For those not in the know, boygenius is the indie supergroup featuring the formidable trio of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus. With their combined talent, you’d think they could wake the dead, let alone keep Dave Grohl’s eyes open. But no, it seems even the Nirvana veteran and rock royalty himself found their musical stylings to be more lullaby than adrenaline pump.
The recording session, which was supposed to be a momentous meeting of musical minds, turned into a one-sided snore-fest. Witnesses claim Grohl, normally known for his infectious energy and drumming prowess, was spotted in the studio reclining on a plush couch, blissfully unaware of the musical magic attempting to unfold around him. Rumors suggest that the gentle strumming of guitars and soulful crooning failed to pierce the veil of Grohl’s REM cycle.
Perhaps it’s a case of musical mismatch, or maybe Grohl’s internal rock ‘n’ roll Richter scale simply didn’t register the seismic talent that is boygenius. Whatever the reason, it’s safe to say that this unexpected turn of events adds a new chapter to Grohl’s already eclectic repertoire.
In a world where collaborations are touted as groundbreaking events, it’s refreshing to see that even a rock icon like Dave Grohl can be immune to the charms of certain musical endeavors. So, the next time you find yourself nodding off during a boygenius track, just remember, you’re in good company – the company of a certain Foo Fighters frontman who evidently values shut-eye over sonic experimentation.
