Historic rock icon Suzi Quatro and KT Tunstall team up to record “Face to Face,” an wonderful album of cover songs that pays homage to the original artist while injecting a fresh new look to some of the dou’s favorite tracks. But really, it’s nice to see Quatro and Tunstall having fun just because they can.

“Face to Face” opens with a powerful rendition of Tom Petty’s “American Girl,” immediately setting the tone for the rest of the record. Quatro and Tunstall blend their mix of raw energy and polished finesse into the song, paying tribute to the original.  Tom would be proud. The album takes an unexpected turn with Bowie’s “Breaking Glass.”  Quatro’s and Tunstall’s juxtaposed harmonies sound amazing and actually show that a master like Bowie can be reimagined and added to and still be great. Their version actually captures the feeling of Bowie while adding  their own layers.  One of my favorite tracks on the record is The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go.” Their electrifying performance really gets the rebellious spirit of the original while adding their personal flair. This cover stands as a testament to their ability to breathe new life into iconic tracks while staying true to the essence that made them classics. They even cover “Can the Can,” Quatro’s own hit single from her early work, once again breathing new life in to this classic gem.

Cover albums can often fall into the trap of imitation, and”Face to Face” is a refreshing departure. Quatro and Tunstall approach each track with their own vision, offering a fresh perspective on familiar songs that invites listeners to appreciate them in a new light. Their willingness to take risks and infuse their own artistic identities into these covers is a testament to their creative spirit and energy.
